Nota generale
| In addition to the Malay translation of Arabic Psalms and Ten Commandments, there are also, in fol. 2v, Arabic and Malay translations on one verse pertaining to the letter of St Paul of the Colossians, 3:16 (“Let the word of Christ dwell in your richly, as in all wisdom you teach and admonish one another, singing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God”). Both Vat.Ind.1 and Vat.Ind.2 should be seen as one package of the fascinating history of Malay translations of Christian books, probably directly from Arabic as seen from both manuscripts, completed by a Christian Malay who was well-versed in Arabic, although some Arabic words were written according to Malay palaeography. |
