Overview This fragment includes most of what would have been the full second folio of a highly condensed seven-fascicle, Pali-Thai bitextual version of the seven books of the Abhidhamma, along with their primary Aṭṭhakathā commentaries. The first fascicle would have been the Dhammasaṅgaṇi (not present here); the second is the present manuscript, namely the Vibhaṅga; and the remaining five fascicles the other five books of the Pali Abhidhamma. The Thai phrase phḍec ḍōyº saṅkhep indicates this is a highly condensed version (saṅkhep), in which most of the original Pali has been suppressed (phḍec). Like most Pali-Thai bitexts, it begins with a citation of the Pali text in question, in this case Buddhaghosa’s commentary on the Vibhaṅga, namely the Sammohavinodanī. It then unpacks this in a bilingual Pali-Thai format. The fragment ends before the conclusion of the Vibhaṅga. The entire manuscript is carved into the folios, with the exception of one inked note on the first folio, which reads dānº lèvº₂, meaning “proofread already,” meaning the scriptorium that produced this manuscript in Central or Southern Thailand had approved it for use and circulation.
